ARTCRANK PDX is pedaling it’s way here
This Thursday is ARTCRANK PDX, a poster party for bike people at the Ace Hotel’s Cleaners. More than 30 Portland artists will be representing their love of bicycles, sharing and selling poster prints ($30 each, which goes to the artist and non-profits including Bike to Rwanda).
The inspiration for my poster submission came from my 3+ years of bike riding around Portland, one of the friendliest towns to do such. Entitled “Travel by Bicycle,” the poster highlights just a few of the many benefits of riding. The image shown here is the lower right corner. This little thumbs-upping raccoon was inspired by an encounter I had late one night while flying down Salmon Street. A very large raccoon took me by surprise and scared the bajeezus out of me — I was very thankful neither of us were hurt. In addition to designing it, I really enjoyed working with Justin Dickmau, who hand-screen printed the posters and also helped with technical design details.
For this exhibition, ARTCRANK is having Itizen help tell the story of each poster by creating a more multi-media experience. Each poster will have a barcode associated with it that can be smartphone-scanned so that the viewer can learn more through words, images, sound, and video. I’m curious to see how that all goes down the night of.
